Yes, quite a sad truth, as you say. However, at least we are encouraged to steadily look up to the Truth we know — in fact, if we keep looking up and following the Lord’s guidance, then we shouldn’t need to worry about the “lowering the bar” phenomenon happening in our lives.

So if I had a chance to visit with him, I would ask him what he meant by his phrase “cheap grace.”

That is a good observation, Lee. What do you believe that it means?
You may wish to look up Randy Alcorn. Among other things, he is an apologist. What I learn through him is that it is important to know WHAT we believe, but also WHY we believe it, and being able to use ordered thinking to clearly explain, as the Bible says, “this hope that we have”. After all, if we do not have a weighty anchor keeping us in place when the storm waters rise, then it’s simply a matter of time until we drift. This is not to say that we ever drift away from the love of God (we cannot lose our salvation), but we can make choices that cause us to prioritize other people and things over the truth that the Bible clearly states.

Thank you for providing some thought provoking ideas for me to think about.
I have heard the phrase “cheap grace” used in the past by people who mock people like myself who rest in the finished work of Christ.
(And like I said, I don’t know anything about the man in your article, so I’m not saying that applies to him).
Here’s my weighty anchor:
(Romans 3.22)
âEven the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:â
(Romans 5.17-19)
âFor if by one manâs offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one manâs disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.â
Like any other Christian, I’m the righteousness of God by the obedience of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Now that’s a reason to get all grinnin is it not dailythankful?
