Humility

D.L. Moody really hit the nail on the head here, no? Sincere, God-honoring humility is actually a virtue (not that we berate ourselves or think less of the talents and treasures that the Lord has granted to us), because without it, we will inevitably find ourselves neck-deep in the ocean of pride!

Indeed, the Bible gives us the following warning about the pitfalls of pride:

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling. (Proverbs 16:18, NASB)

So, in actuality, D.L. Moody was simply paraphrasing what the Bible already teaches us about the consequences of pride. We are wise to heed this warning, because when we model biblical humility, everyone benefits (including us!). In my view, there really is no downside to being humble – only an upside for us and everyone the Lord places within our circle of influence. 💡
