I came across this verse in my Bible reading this morning; what an encouraging reminder it was to me! God not only helps us, but He also sustains us.
I took a moment to look up “sustain” – I like looking up the familiar words that we casually use each day; we often miss the subtle shades of meaning contained therein – and noted that the first definition is “to give support or relief to”.
Additionally, “help” has a similar first definition, but the second one caught my eye: “to make more pleasant or bearable”.
God does both of these things for us: He provides relief, and also makes things more manageable – but not always easier! – for us because He is with us every step of the way. Put another way, He supplies us with what we need (at just the right time) in order for us to carry out His plans and purposes for our lives. This is good news, indeed.
